Web Design/Photoshop Syllabus
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will be an introductory Web design course, or a Web authoring course, that teaches Web design techniques and also covers HTML, Adobe Dreamweaver, Flash and Photoshop. The objectives of this course are to:
• Present a practical approach to Web design using a blend of traditional development guidelines with current technologies and trends
• Give students an in-depth understanding of Web design concepts and techniques that are essential to planning, creating, testing, publishing, and maintaining Web sites
• Define and describe in detail the six steps in developing a solid Web design plan: define the purpose, identify the site’s target audience, determine the site’s general content, select the site’s structure, design the look and feel of the site, and specify the site’s navigation system
• Direct students to the World Wide Web to do additional research and allow them to evaluate and assess the design techniques and technologies discussed in the book
• Provide an ongoing case study and assignments that promote student participation in learning about Web design
In addition to learning effective web design principles, you will learn how to effectively use the following software that will help you become excellent web designers:
DREAMWEAVER: In this course, you will learn the most important topics of Adobe Dreamweaver CS5, Adobe Flash CS5, and Adobe Photoshop CS5. You will first learn how to get started with Dreamweaver and how to create a website and develop a web page. Then, you will work with text, images, and links. Next, you will learn to position page content with CSS and tables. Next, you will learn how to manage a web server and files. FLASH: In this course, you will learn Adobe Flash CS5 through step-by-step instructions and in-depth explanations. You will first learn how to get started with Flash, how to draw objects, and how to work with symbols and interactivity. Next, you will focus on creating animations and creating special effects. PHOTOSHOP: In this course, you will learn the most important topics of Adobe Photoshop CS5. You will first learn how to get started and work with Photoshop, including using Adobe Bridge and Mini Bridge. Next, you will learn how to work with layers, make selections, incorporate color techniques, and place type in an image, etc.

Assignments/Projects: 50%
Tests/Quizzes: 40%
Participation: 10%
Assignments: Most assignments will be completed during class time, but may have to be completed out of class sometimes. Out of class assignments will be given occasionally.
Projects: A true test of accomplishment in this class is the creating of various projects and publications. A large portion of your grade will be allocated to the quality of projects completed in this class.
Tests/Quizzes: After each major unit a test will be given to evaluate your progress on the materials covered. Quizzes may be given when needed. Semester and final exams will be given as well, however the final exam will likely be in the form of a project.
Participation: Each week students are able to earn 25 points that will be credited towards their participation grade. These points can be earned by being prepared every day with the proper class materials, by participating in class discussions and answering questions when called upon, and by being generally well behaved. Tardies and absences will lower your participation grade as follows:
Tardy: -2 Excused Absence: -3 School Trip: -1 Unexcused absence: -5
*Students can earn points back if they make an effort to make up activities done in class.*

98-100 = A+ 78-79 = C+ below 60 = F
93-97 = A 73-77 = C
90-92 = A- 70-72 = C-
88-89 = B+ 68-69 = D+
83-87 = B 63-67 = D
80-82 = B- 60-62 = D-
